Talking about Fears in the Wee Hours

Last night, my oldest son had a nightmare. He came to me instead of the Vintner and cuddled. He told me all about the "thunderstorm" and his fears. We then talked about what daddy and mommy fear - things he doesn't (like iatrogenic injury.) I loved those learning moments. It was so worth the sacrifice of some sleep to talk to him about what nightmares are and how everyone has them and fears. The moments of parenting come to you, not you to them. One cannot schedule child development around adult time tables and convenience.
