Reviewing Quotes from Mary Wollestonecraft

I spent some time doing a writing exercise this morning, exposition on quotes from Mary Wollestonecraft.  It's an old exercise from school, to get the creative juices flowing.  I was amazed to discover how my opinion on matters had changed since I had originally transcribed the quotes.  I didn't write at all the opinion that I would have expected.  I have changed and grown this year.  I'm shocked at the judgement and lack of charity I had expected to write.  Now, I see life from a more compassionate, more loving point of view.  I'm eager to make new friends to help me grow even further.  I'm not looking for friends to reinforce my own points of view.  I am humbled at how much more love I have to give.  I am humbled by how much more I have to learn.  I reject my smug condemnation of others, that I embraced even a short few months back.  The exercised proved more than just pre-writing creative work.  It reflected a position back to myself that I would no longer claim.  I wish now to approach life from a place of love and faith.

Perhaps I will post my exercise from this morning.  Perhaps I will use this blog for future exercises.  Either way, I see that writing as fitting in here with the gardening posts.  It's all part of my journey back to the fold and back home.  It's part of my journey learning to love others, as I have been loved.

Contemplating Compassion

During these quiet days, I've had time to reflect on compassion. I struggle so with my conflict with my parents and in-laws. It is so difficult for me to show deference and due respect, when I feel so bossed around and bullied. Even though it is not mean spirited, but well intentioned, I strain nonetheless. I pray every day, twice a day, for the right things to say and do. I only hope to be the best parent I can be to my own children. These days impending the birth of my youngest child brings this struggle to the forefront of my mind.

Growing Vines

Our vines continue to grow. The one that gave me the most concern last year is the one thriving this year. The other vine doesn't quite get as much sunshine, and is a bit behind, but doing well. While in general I don't want too many photos on this blog, I intend to take a few of the vines and post them.

Our attempt to visit a new place of worship did not go well. We chose a neighborhood church, instead of where we felt led. I was stressed for the rest of the day. I realize that it may be a very long time indeed before we find a home.

The Fourth Week of Lent

Part of my prayers have been answered. A friend has invited my husband and I to a social event affiliated with their church. I hope this is a step we can take to finding our spiritual home.

Praying for Guidance

Praying for Ministry

Today we are praying for ministry in our journey home to the Continuing Anglican movement. As the months draw on, we don't know how long this will take or the exact path. All we know is that our faith in Christ grows stronger every day.

Septuagesima: Grace upon grace

As a new Continuing Anglican, I am as a worker who arrived in the eleventh hour. I'm a poor one to expound upon the season of Shrovetide. Instead, I consider the Continuing Anglican's blog.

Also, as it is the first of the month, I have the usual monthly errands for shopping, plus more, due to unusual expenses. We'll be out all day.

Then, tonight we pray in preparation of the Purification tomorrow. Tomorrow will be an extraordinarily busy day, with many lessons from morning until night. The time is the preparation for the preparation, and I certainly feel it spiritually and practically.

A Second Recommendation

I've just finished reading Mere Christianity. I must recommend it again, as I did when I first listened to part of it, and posted it on my side bar. It's worth both listening to (since it was originally meant as a radio broadcast) and reading. Either way knocks one's socks off.

The Conversion of St. Paul

Before Advent

My favorite collect - indeed, the first one I knew - is the week before Advent:

STIR up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people; that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works, may by thee be plenteously rewarded; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It is this collect, and the preparations of Stir-up Sunday (in a culinary sense, at first) are what first began my pull away from Quakerism and toward the Church. At first, it was tongue-in-cheek. Now, I'm very serious about the importance of the Christian calendar and the true Church. We conclude this year with a farewell to our old life, and a look forward to the further journey home.

Knocking My Socks Off

In the past week, both the BCP and D.W. Whittle have 1 Timothy:3 scheduled as a passage. Wow. I don't know how I've glossed over this in the past, but it's left me reeling for days. Maybe I'm just at a point in my life where this really speaks to me:

1 Timothy, chapter 3

1: This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2: A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3: Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4: One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5: (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6: Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Back from a Break

I needed a bit of a break from blogging. To catch up with the New Testament for the past week - we're now finishing 2 Thessalonians. We're winding down with the D.W. Whittle plan, and it's feeling a bit empty. I'm so much happier with the 1789 and 1928 BCE. I look forward to updating the blog in the coming year.

Our little vineyard is doing well in October. The vines are winding down and getting reading to winterize. We look forward to a quiet rest for them and a wonderful spring.

Daniel 12:1-3

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
